Payroll Tax Manager
Location: San Antonio, TX (Onsite)
Compensation: $75,000-$85,000 + Bonus + Benefits
A growing, mission-driven organization is seeking a Payroll Tax Manager to lead payroll and payroll tax operations in a high-volume, multi-entity environment. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence across thousands of employer accounts.
This position offers the opportunity to oversee critical payroll functions, lead a dedicated team, support business expansion into new states, and help strengthen the processes and systems that support long-term growth.

- Oversee payroll processing and payroll tax operations in a multi-entity aggregate filing environment.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Manage and supervise the preparation and filing of payroll tax forms, including:
- Form 941
- Schedule B
- Form 940
- W-2 reporting
- State unemployment tax filings (SUTA)
- Reconcile payroll tax liabilities, deposits, with holdings, Social Security, and Medicare reporting.
- Respond to federal and state payroll tax notices and audits.
- Lead, develop, and mentor payroll supervisors, payroll specialists, and tax specialists.
- Drive payroll system enhancements, implementations, and process improvements.
- Partner with leadership to support expansion into additional states and establish new payroll tax processes.
- Maintain accurate payroll reporting and ensure timely payroll and tax deadlines are met.
- 3+ years of payroll accounting experience in a multi-entity or aggregate filing environment.
- 2-3+ years of leadership experience managing payroll and/or tax teams.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations.
- Experience with payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and compliance reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience supporting payroll operations across multiple states.
- Background in healthcare, payroll services, professional employer organizations (PEOs), or other high-volume payroll environments.
