Department Summary

The mission of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to provide a student-centered environment that facilitates a culture of inter-disciplinary learning and innovation, while encouraging active participation in scholarly and professional activities to serve the biomedical engineering profession and society, while advancing regional economic development.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing more complex administrative support and customer‑oriented services to a department. It coordinates activities and acts as a department/area liaison handling issues that are sensitive and confidential. The role identifies and recommends improvements for administrative procedures; assignments range from routine to complex in nature and require latitude, problem solving, and interpretation of departmental and university guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree and three years of moderately responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting/budgeting procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to constant changes, handle multiple tasks, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to keep complex records, assemble and organize detailed data, and prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple assignments effectively.
  • Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and terminology of assigned functions.
Job Duties
  • Assist the Administrative Coordinator in the administrative support of databasing, correspondence reports, and event and planning activities for the department.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the department, receiving and routing phone calls, visitors, and students; receive all shipments and collect and distribute mail.
  • Assist in gathering various data for the department.
  • Be knowledgeable in student policies and assist students with graduate advising, degree plans, enrollment requests, and other student‑related inquiries.
  • Maintain the department website.
  • Develop the course schedule, assign rooms, and coordinate with the registrar.
Physical Requirements
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and/or standing.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Environmental Hazards
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
