Student Library Assistant
Academic YearPosition SummaryStudent Library Assistant essential responsibilities include providing basic circulation assistance and troubleshooting minor photocopier, printer, and scanner problems. The Student Library Assistant reports to the Health Sciences Liaison Librarian.
This position is located at 9160 Gilbeau Rd, San Antonio, Texas.
- Manage the circulation of materials using the automated library system.
- Staff the circulation desk/ reference desk service point in the library.
- Enforce policies governing transactions, the use of space/ equipment and resources.
- Shelve materials properly, shift (when needed) and shelf read the collection.
- Answer questions received at the service desks (in person and by phone) to provide general information.
- Assist patrons with the use of equipment and locating items in the collection.
- Refer patrons to a librarian when appropriate.
- Maintain photocopiers and printers by adding toner and paper. Troubleshoot minor problems.
- Assist in the processing of library materials.
- Assist in maintaining the appearance of the library, keeping shelves neat and furniture arranged. Wipe down doors and furniture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Excellent customer service skills. The ability to act professionally in a public service environment.
- To be punctual, dependable, flexible, and attentive to clients.
- Possess good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in mainstream computer software and the ability to manage basic computer hardware issues.
- Experience working with the public, working with computers, photocopiers and printers.
- Ability to learn quickly, work independently and problem solve.
- Ability to follow directions and enforce Library policy.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
- Current UIW student at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences campus.
- Must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of Library operations/services, audiovisual equipment, and computer software.
Required Certifications, Licenses or RegistrationsNone.
Work Hours- Monday through Friday, including nights and some weekends.
Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds and push book trucks weighing more than 100 pounds.
