Receptionist - Office of the Dean, RSO (Part-time)
This part‑time receptionist serves as the first point of contact for the Office of the Dean in the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO). The role directs visitors and callers, assists with general office duties, and reports to the Dean.
Job Summary
The receptionist welcomes visitors, communicates visitor arrivals, and escorts them to the appropriate office. The position resolves customer concerns, performs administrative support tasks such as mail handling, calendar management, filing, and assists with event setup and clean‑up. The role maintains a clean workspace, manages printer and copier stations, and communicates with the Dean’s suite regarding office needs. The receptionist answers telephones quickly and professionally, aiming to answer within two rings, and may perform other duties as assigned.
Location
• RSO facility near the Medical Center at 9725 Datapoint Dr, San Antonio, TX 78229. The position is not benefits eligible.
- Serve as the first point of contact, ensuring all clients, faculty, staff, students, and visitors entering the building are notified to appropriate personnel.
- Resolve customer concerns by addressing them directly or referring them appropriately.
- Assist with general office tasks for the Dean’s suite: prepare outgoing mail, retrieve incoming mail, manage the office and master calendar, resolve scheduling conflicts, file, and other administrative duties.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace and embody a friendly tone when speaking to callers.
- Manage printer and copier stations, alert Dean’s suite to necessary actions, restock supplies, and assist with event setup and breakdown.
- Keep the Dean’s suite informed of activities and needs in the lobby area.
- Answer the phone quickly and professionally, with a goal of answering within two rings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Work ExperienceTwo (2) years of office support experience in a complex office setting.
Preferred Qualifications- Office support experience in higher education, optometry, or a similar environment.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish.
- Two (2) years of related experience in an office management or optometry practice setting.

Work Hours20 hours per week within the standard office hours of Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm, with occasional extended hours or weekends as needed.
Physical Demands- Lift up to 15 lbs for table set‑up/tear‑down at events.
- Lift up to 20 lbs of office/event materials, including reach overhead, bend, and squat.
- Push/pull event/equipment carts holding up to 45 lbs.
- Engage in events for extended periods of time and move around campus and venues actively.
