** Summary
* * Under direct supervision, is responsible for general secretarial duties; prepares basic reports; maintains computerized files; and performs related duties as required. This position is not covered under Civil Service
*
* Duties and Responsibilities:

*** Types moderately complex letters and memos utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor
* Maintains statistics and develops reports
* Enters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT utilizing spreadsheet or database applications
* Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing some discretion
* Develops and maintains files
* Accesses and files information
* Opens and distributes mail
* Copies information and distributes to appropriate location
* Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work
* May order and maintain supplies
* Performs related duties as required
*
* Minimum Qualifications:

*** Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate; and two (2) years general office experience including at least one (1) year secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Transcribes complex information utilizing Dictaphone
* Good knowledge of office procedures.
* Knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation; knowledge of word processing, database or spreadsheet software packages
* Skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment. (Requirement); skill to type 45 wpm with no more than 7 errors
* Ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to transcribe machine dictation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general public
* Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office
* Must clear a pre-employment physical
* May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
** Working Environment and Physical Demands:
*** Constantly working in indoor conditions
* Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
* Occasionally moves about the office
* Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
* Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
* Positions self to perform essential functions
* Must be able to remain in a stationary position
