Position: Office Assistant II - District Attorney - $18.34 hourly

Job Title:

Office Assistant II – District Attorney

Pay Range: $18.34 - $21.55 per hour (Full Time)

Overview

Under direct supervision, responsible for general secretarial duties; prepares basic reports; maintains computerized files; and performs related duties as required. This position is not covered under Civil Service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Types moderately complex letters and memos using a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor.
  • Maintains statistics and develops reports.
  • Enters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT utilizing spreadsheet or database applications.
  • Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages using discretion.
  • Develops and maintains files; accesses and files information.
  • Opens and distributes mail; copies information and distributes to appropriate location.
  • Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work.
  • May order and maintain supplies.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Two (2) years of general office experience, including at least one (1) year of secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transcribes complex information utilizing Dictaphone.
  • Good knowledge of office procedures.
  • Knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of word processing, database or spreadsheet software packages.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment.
  • Typing skill of 45 words per minute with no more than 7 errors.
  • Ability to accurately enter data and file information; to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; to transcribe machine dictation; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, other County employees and the general public.
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office.
  • Must clear a pre‑employment physical.
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Constantly working in indoor conditions.
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10–15 pounds.
  • Occasionally moves about the office.
  • Frequently communicates with others and must exchange accurate information.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Positions itself to perform essential functions and must remain in a stationary position.
