Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Media Relations is responsible for contributions to the University’s athletics website and serving as the primary contact for assigned sports while assisting with other sports. This position will support the communications department by monitoring, updating, editing, and proof-reading recaps, articles, game and year stats, and social media information. Essential Functions
- Serving as a liaison with local and national media.
- Writing error-free press releases and feature stories.
- Maintaining the department’s website and social media channels for timely informational accuracy.
- Producing media supplements, record books and game programs.
- May travel with assigned teams.
- Maintaining statistics and archives.
- Providing information to the NCAA and conference office.
- Maintain positive relationships with Coaches and Student-Athletes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with Stat Crew software and NCAA Live Stats.
- Strong Communications skills.
- Demonstrate superior writing, editing and judgement.
- Provide enthusiasm and the long-term goal of working in athletic media relations profession;
- Strong work ethic.
- Possess an ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communications and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference and the NCAA .
- Current UIW graduate Communication Arts student.
- Students awaiting acceptance from UIW graduate program may also apply with job offer contingent upon acceptance.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in writing editing and designing effective publications.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid drivers license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW .
Work Hours
Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift equipment, tools, and/or materials weighing up to 25 pounds waist-high.
