Chief Counsel - Global Information Governance & Privacy Position Overview
You will run the day-to-day operations of Vontier’s global privacy and data protection program, reporting to the Chief Counsel — Global Information Governance & Privacy
, who owns function strategy and legal judgment. The role carries operational ownership of the program’s core machinery — assessments, data subject rights, records of processing, vendor reviews, training, and tooling across a global industrial technology company with business lines and connected products in multiple countries.
This is an operations leadership role, not a legal role — a law degree is not required, and questions requiring legal judgment route to the Chief Counsel. The role’s UK base is an asset: proximity to EU and UK regulators, GDPR-home-jurisdiction operations, and working-hours coverage for the Company’s European businesses.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the global assessment workflow — privacy impact assessments (PIA), transfer impact assessments (TIA), and data protection impact assessments (DPIA) — and the annual BPDA (RoPA) assessment cycle end-to-end including: intake, risk evaluation, and the development and deployment of remediation action plans across the business lines.
- Provide privacy-by-design guidance to product development teams so that products and features conform to privacy-by-design principles, escalating questions requiring legal judgment to the Chief Counsel.
- Own data subject rights operations end to end — intake, verification, fulfillment, and recordkeeping — including routing controller-side requests to the applicable customer where Vontier acts as processor.
- Own the records of processing and data map and coordinate retention operations with the Company’s records management and data governance policies.
- Manage the vendor privacy program: privacy assessments, risk tiering, and coordination of data processing agreement workflows.
- Lead training and awareness — building internal support tools that address day-to-day privacy questions and building and supporting the privacy network across the business lines.
- Own the tooling and the metrics: administer the privacy management platform (Securiti.ai) day to day, maintain program KPIs, and prepare program reporting for the Chief Counsel and governance committees.
- Coordinate contractor and intern resources and support program budget tracking, delivering on-schedule work product through structured project management.
- Manage day-to-day coordination with the external German DPO, and support works council arrangements and EU/UK regulator correspondence as applicable.
- Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years in privacy program management or privacy operations.
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of core program machinery, including: assessment workflows (PIA/TIA/DPIA), data subject rights operations, records of processing and data mapping, vendor privacy reviews, and/or training delivery.
- Operational depth in GDPR and UK GDPR, with working knowledge of U.S. state privacy laws.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the interpersonal range to bring together cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
- Fluency with privacy management tooling (e.g., Securiti.ai, One Trust, Trust Arc, or equivalent) and program metrics.
- Structured, pragmatic execution in a lean, matrixed, multi-country environment — repeatable processes are paramount.
- PC.dp certification, IAPP certification (CIPM and/or CIPP/E), or similar.
- Experience in industrial technology, manufacturing, or connected-product environments.
- Familiarity with data governance and records management programs (e.g., Microsoft Purview ecosystem).
- Experience supporting UK/EU regulator relationships and correspondence and coordinating contractors.
- German and/or Italian language.
- Understanding of Internet and tracking technologies — online behavioral advertising, mobile applications, social media APIs — and basic website development processes.
