Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Board Relations Manager serves as the primary liaison between the Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) executive leadership team and the Board of Directors. This position is responsible for coordinating all board governance activities, ensuring compliance with federal and Texas laws, managing board communications, supporting committee operations, and fostering strong relationships between board members, executive leadership, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
The Board Relations Manager serves as a key governance and executive support professional, providing high-level coordination and guidance to ensure effective Board operations and communication between the Board, CEO, executive leadership, and external stakeholders. The position supports the CEO and Board Chair in advancing Board priorities while maintaining appropriate distinctions between Board governance and day-to-day organizational management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Board Governance- Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate all Board and committee meetings.
- Prepare meeting agendas in coordination with the CEO and Board Chair.
- Coordinate production and distribution of Board packets.
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act.
- Maintain official Board records and archives.
- Coordinate Board elections and officer transitions.
- Manage Board appointments and reappointments.
- Maintain Board member contact information and biographies.
Coordinate activities for:
- Board of Directors Committee
- Executive Committee
- Committee of Six (Cof6)
- Audit & Finance Committee
- Strategic Committee
- Early Care & Education Committee
- Youth Committee
- Oversight Committee
- Nominations Committee
- AD HOC Committee
Responsibilities include:
- Schedule committee meetings and coordinate logistics.
- Record and maintain committee meeting minutes.
- Follow-up on committee directives and action items
- Track committee recommendations and action items.
- Prepare committee agendas and supporting materials.
- Coordinate conflicts of interest disclosures.
- Manage Board recognition activities in coordination with the appropriate department.
- Assist Board members with information requests.
- Foster effective working relationships with Board members, elected officials, community leaders, workforce partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Assist the CEO with Board communications and governance-related matters.
- Prepare executive briefing materials, presentations, and reports.
- Coordinate strategic planning sessions.
- Track Board-approved goals, priorities, and initiatives.
- Monitor completion of Board directives and provide appropriate status updates to executive leadership.
- Assist with annual Board self-assessment.
- Coordinate appropriate engagement between Board leadership, executive leadership, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
- Support the development and implementation of Board governance priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve Board effectiveness, engagement, and governance processes.
- Support the development and implementation of Board governance metrics and performance reports.
Coordinate and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, WSA policies, Board bylaws, and governance requirements. Identify and escalate potential compliance concerns to the appropriate executive leadership or legal counsel and maintain appropriate documentation to support compliance.

Ensure Board records, correspondence, meeting materials, and other documentation are maintained in accordance with applicable records retention, confidentiality, and public information requirements.
Coordinate responses to Board-related public information requests with appropriate departments and legal counsel, as applicable.
Exercise discretion in handling confidential, sensitive, and executive-level information.
Executive SupportSupport the CEO by:
- Coordinating Board priorities and initiatives.
- Tracking Board and committee action items.
- Preparing executive reports, presentations, and briefing materials.
- Drafting Board and executive correspondence.
- Coordinating governance-related meetings.
- Preparing legislative and governmental briefing materials.
- Coordinating meetings with elected officials and community leaders.
The Board Relations Manager may provide support to the Marketing Department, as needed, in the following areas:
- Support the coordination of Board recognition events.
- Assist with public meetings.
- Support media logistics involving Board leadership.
- Support maintaining the Board section of the agency website.
