Full-time position at Archdiocese of San Antonio. Workdays vary according to availability.

2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

St. PJ's Children's Home is a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and accompanies them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time.

Summary:

Under the general direction of the Lead, Evening and Weekend Supervisors, the Youth Care Worker is responsible for the daily care and supervision of UAC ensuring their health, safety and well-being is protected at all times. The Youth Care Worker implements direct care services in a manner that promotes best practices and delivers quality trauma‑informed care. The Youth Care Worker meets the physical, social, emotional, educational, and recreational needs of UAC in accordance with agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.

Position

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining positive, supportive and professional relationships with UAC and program staff.
  • Elevating concerns or issues related to UAC, program staff, work and living environment within required time frames.
  • Completing all required documentation for UAC accurately and within required time frames.
  • Utilizing positive behavior management techniques including verbal redirection, prompting, reminders, de‑escalation and emergency behavior intervention.
  • Ensuring that the resident‑to‑staff ratio is properly maintained at all times.
  • Protecting the confidentiality of client information and organizational data.
  • Adhering to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Morals Policy.
  • Demonstrating a solution‑oriented approach and teamwork as a member of the organization.
  • Attending a 10‑day New Employee Orientation. Failure to complete will result in termination.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services or social service fields; or
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent plus one year of employment experience working in the child welfare field with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting.
Experience
  • Experience working with children in a residential setting is preferred.
License and Credentials
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Valid vehicle insurance.
Vaccines
  • Varicella:
    Two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR immunity evidence.
  • MMR:
    Two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR immunity evidence.
  • DTaP or DTap:
    Complete primary vaccination series; one DTaP dose in adulthood if series completed in childhood.
  • Influenza:
    One dose annually during flu season.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret policy and program standards.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and speak effectively before individuals and groups.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Capacity to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, organize, manage responsibilities, and prioritize duties.
  • Strong assessment skills and remaining calm in crisis situations.
  • Detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
