Description

A Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for USACE projects is a mandatory on-site role responsible for implementing, enforcing, and managing the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and activity hazard analyses. They ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards, conduct daily safety meetings, and possess authority to stop work for unsafe conditions Working on a USACE project at Fort Sam Houston.

A historical renovation. Will be a short term contract which current SSHO is off.

Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain the project-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) in accordance with EM 385‑1‑1 and contract requirements Conduct and document daily safety inspections of all work areas, equipment, and construction activities Enforce compliance with EM 385‑1‑1, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies Serve as the primary safety liaison with USACE, NAVFAC, Air Force, or other federal safety representatives Conduct site safety orientations and ongoing safety training for employees and subcontractors Prepare and submit daily safety reports, inspection logs, and incident documentation Lead and document weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses;

perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions Review, approve, and enforce Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all definable features of work Coordinate safety requirements with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Quality Control Manager Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or practices are observed and ensure hazards are corrected prior to resuming work

Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience, with federal project experience preferred EM 385‑1‑1 Competent Person qualification or training (required for federal work) OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Safety certification Strong working knowledge of federal construction safety standards and documentation requirements Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and safety requirements Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
