Short‑Term Contract Opportunity

Step into a critical leadership role on a high‑profile U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project at Fort Sam Houston, where history meets modern construction. We are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to temporarily support the project while the current SSHO is off assignment.

This is a hands‑on, on‑site role for a safety professional who thrives in fast‑paced construction environments and takes ownership of jobsite safety.

What You'll Be Doing

As the SSHO, you are the authority on site when it comes to safety.

Your role is essential to protecting people, preserving history, and keeping work moving safely and efficiently.

+ Serve as the on‑site safety lead for a USACE construction project

+ Implement, manage, and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP)

+ Develop, review, and enforce Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)

+ Ensure full compliance with EM 385‑1‑1 and OSHA standards

+ Conduct daily safety meetings, inspections, and audits

+ Identify hazards proactively and drive immediate corrective actions

+ Maintain required safety documentation and reporting

+ Exercise full authority to stop work when unsafe conditions exist

Required Qualifications

+ 2+ years of experience as a Site Safety & Health Officer or equivalent

+ OSHA 30 (Construction) - required

+ Strong working knowledge of USACE projects and EM 385‑1‑1

+ Construction safety experience in active jobsite environments

+ Confident communicator with leadership presence on site

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
