Job Summary
Under direction, is responsible for inspecting fiber infrastructure to ensure that all materials and work by performed by the contractor is in accordance with the City Right of Way permit requirement and the City standard specifications. Working conditions are inside and outside with occasional exposure to temperature variations, damp/wet surfaces, hazardous materials, flammable liquids, high noise areas, dust, and unfavorable fumes and vapors.

Work Hours7:45 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
- Ensures that all materials and work by the contractor is in accordance with the City Right of Way permit requirement and the City standard specifications.
- Ensures that contractor conforms to safety rules and regulations, to include MUTCD.
- Issues violations when contractor is in non-compliance with the City Right of Way Ordinance and/or the Utility Excavation Criteria Manual.
- Inspects and monitors the constructions of all fiber infrastructure.
- Coordinates construction or repair activities between contractors and utility companies to avoid conflicts and to ensure a minimum disruption of services.
- Resolves complaints from the general public on construction related activities.
- Prepares and maintains accurate daily project logs in the City's permit system.
- Utilizes surveying or construction equipment, occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Communicates and meets with the general public as well as with City and State officials regarding sequence of construction.
- Coordinates with other divisions, to set up traffic signs, and barricade road hazards when working around construction sites.
- Learns Specifications for Construction over Edward's Recharge Zone.
- Assists in training the Construction Inspector I's on inspection methods, report writing procedures, and related tasks.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as re required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Three (3) years of experience in public work project inspections.
- Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
- Five (5) years of experience with construction inspections related to municipality projects.
- Three (3) years of experience with asphalt & concrete construction/restoration methods and techniques.
- Experience with Fiber Deployment.
- Experience with Excel spreadsheet documentation and other MS Office apps.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of construction and engineering.
- Knowledge of methods, equipment, costs, and materials used in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of codes, regulations, and ordinances related to the construction industry.
- Knowledge of hazards, safety, and other OSHA regulations related to the construction industry.
- Knowledge of engineering mathematics.
- Skill in utilizing tools and equipment used in the construction engineering and surveying trades, to include Instrument/Level, Laser, Slum Cone, Scale, and Nuclear Density Machine.
- Skill in utilizing a calculator.
- Ability to interpret plans, blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations.
- Ability to use independent judgment in making decisions.
- Ability to exercise firmness and tact in dealing with contractors, engineers, etc.
- Ability to interpret and properly apply codes and regulations.
- Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
