Project Estimator

We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for asphalt paving and civil construction projects. This role is responsible for reviewing project plans, performing quantity takeoffs, developing labor and material cost estimates, and preparing bid proposals. The Estimator will work closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers to ensure bids are accurate, profitable, and aligned with project requirements.

• Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate cost estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for asphalt paving, milling, base materials, grading, drainage, striping, trucking, and related construction activities.
• Calculate labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs using current production rates and market pricing.
• Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and potential cost impacts during the estimating process.
• Prepare complete bid proposals, pricing sheets, and supporting documentation within required deadlines.
• Maintain current knowledge of material pricing, fuel costs, labor rates, and industry trends.

• Conduct site visits to evaluate project conditions, access, measurements, drainage, and other field considerations.
• Meet with customers, contractors, and project stakeholders to clarify project scope and requirements.
• Provide recommendations for paving solutions, repair methods, and cost-effective construction approaches.
• Coordinate with operations and project management to ensure estimates reflect realistic production capabilities.
• Participate in project handoff meetings after award to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to construction.
• Assist with contract reviews, scheduling, and resource planning as needed.

• Maintain estimating files, historical cost data, and pricing databases.
• Track bid results and analyze estimating performance to improve future accuracy.
• Utilize estimating software, digital takeoff tools, Microsoft Excel, and other applications to prepare consistent and accurate estimates.

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years of estimating experience in asphalt paving, civil construction, or site development preferred.
• Strong understanding of asphalt paving methods, construction materials, production rates, and heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, organization, and customer service abilities.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites.
• Ability to successfully pass required background screenings.
