Assistant Superintendent

The Assistant Superintendent position is the first step in taking a larger field leadership role on our complex projects and is the first step towards preparing individuals to become field Superintendents. The ideal candidate will support the Superintendent in executing commercial concrete construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role is crucial in coordinating field operations and managing day-to-day activities on-site across various sectors, including commercial, healthcare, hospitality, and educational projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Superintendent in planning and executing construction projects from start to finish.
  • Coordinate on-site activities to ensure work is carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct periodic job site safety inspections and audits. All field positions are ultimately responsible for all actions occurring on the job site and ensuring safe working conditions for all.
  • Monitor project progress and report on any issues or delays to the Superintendent.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with customers and suppliers to keep a smooth flow of operations. Communicate clearly and consistently with all parties involved regarding deliveries and general job progress.
  • Record and maintain information and produce reports such as personnel, production, project logs, status, and other operational data. Assist in making decisions regarding start-up/shut-down issues on assigned projects and instruct crew members accordingly.
  • Communicate goals and expectations to crew members, including but not limited to allotted work hours, amount of work to be completed, schedule, etc.
  • Maintain quality control and ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
  • Assist in scheduling and conducting site meetings to discuss project progress and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project documentation and reports.
  • Provide administrative support to the Project Superintendent.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in preparing the quantity reports and analyzing the labor costs.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as an Assistant Superintendent or in a similar role in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Experience with commercial projects, including tenant improvements and ground-up developments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • 5+ Years as a superintendent in structural concrete construction
  • Familiarity with advanced construction management tools and software.
  • Strong conflict resolution and decision-making abilities.
