Curator, The Tobin Collection of Theatre Arts
McNay Art Museum – San Antonio, TX.
Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000
To collect, catalogue, and maintain the theatre arts collection and make this collection available to a broad audience through exhibitions, publications, and educational programs.
Essential Job Functions- Develop the theatre arts collection through gifts, purchases, and bequests; prepare and present proposals for the Director.
- Plan all theatre arts conservation activities, including surveys, preventative measures, and treatments, with the Collections Manager and others.
- Plan and coordinate the theatre arts exhibition program and overall schedule with the Head of Curatorial Affairs and staff.
- Coordinate all theatre arts preparation activities, including installation, conservation, framing, storage, and shipping, with the Head of Curatorial Affairs, Collections Manager, and staff.
- Prepare publications related to the theatre arts collection and exhibitions.
- Write and present lectures, gallery talks, and schedule or conduct tours of the collection.
- Assist the Head of Curatorial Affairs and staff in planning in‑house, traveling, and loan exhibitions.
- Coordinate the work of The Tobin Theatre Arts Fund Assistant Curator.
- Collaborate with the Head of Education to plan joint programming of permanent collection installations and temporary exhibitions.
- Coordinate all collection‑management activities with the Collections Manager, including policies, storage, photography, forms, and records.
- Work with the Collections Manager and Lead Preparator to ensure proper light, temperature, and humidity levels in galleries.
- Prepare the operating budget for the collection, working with Head of Curatorial Affairs and Head of Finance.
- Coordinate finances with The Tobin Theatre Arts Fund and oversee exhibition accounts charged to the Fund.
- Identify and develop funding and sponsorship opportunities with the Director and development staff.
- Perform other duties as required.
Museum curatorial experience, minimum five years.
Education:
Master’s degree in art history, museum studies, studio art, theatre history, performance studies, drama, or humanities.
Excellent writing and speaking abilities.
