Storytelling & Editorial Volunteer

Freedom Challenge USA

Part-Time (5 Hours/Week) | Volunteer Role, minimum 6 months

Do you have a heart for storytelling and a sharp eye for detail? Join Freedom Challenge USA as a Storytelling & Editorial Volunteer and help bring powerful global testimonies to life—supporting a movement that advocates for freedom from human trafficking through prayer, worship, and action.

This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to grow professionally, build a strong writing and editing portfolio, and develop marketable skills in nonprofit storytelling, cross-cultural communication, and digital publishing.

The Freedom Challenge is a movement of passionate women dedicated to freeing oppressed and enslaved women and children worldwide. We do this by praying intentionally and participating in physical challenges while raising funds and awareness to disrupt the cycles of oppression and poverty that can lead to human trafficking.

Role Overview

The Storytelling & Editorial Volunteer will refresh and repurpose testimonies received from Freedom Challenge projects around the world. These stories reflect how grant funding is transforming lives and communities. You'll edit and publish them to our blog (through Squarespace), archive them for future marketing use, and collaborate with our team to ensure each story is handled with care, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities
  • Edit and rewrite global project testimonies
  • Ensure stories align with Freedom Challenge's voice, tone, and values
  • Source appropriate visuals from our internal photo bank when needed
  • Publish stories to our blog (through Squarespace) with relevant formatting and imagery
  • Archive stories for future use in donor engagement, social media, and brochures
  • Collaborate with the Field Relation Specialist to retrieve fresh stories
  • Participate in training on cultural sensitivity and privacy protocols
  • Provide proofreading support for other content as needed
  • Report to the Content & Brand Lead and contribute to content planning
What You’ll Gain
  • Experience in cross-cultural storytelling and ethical editing
  • Skills in content creation, blog publishing, and digital archiving
  • Exposure to faith-based nonprofit communications and global missions
  • Development of professional writing, editing, and collaboration skills
  • A portfolio of meaningful work to showcase on your resume
Qualifications
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Background or interest in Communications, Journalism, International Studies, or related fields
  • Sensitivity to cultural nuances and storytelling ethics
  • Familiarity with Squarespace or willingness to learn
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and respectful of privacy and confidentiality
  • A posture of learning, growth, and curiosity
  • Agreement with OM USA's Statement of Faith
