Community Planner (San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, Richardson)

Halff is seeking to hire a Community Planner to join our Texas Planning Team with the option of several of our office locations. The ideal person for this position can thrive in a collaborative work environment with an interdisciplinary team of planners, landscape architects, and engineers. Our planners lead a wide variety of unique and traditional planning projects throughout Texas and several neighboring states.

Projects typically range from comprehensive planning; parks, recreation, and trails planning; downtown, special area planning; transportation planning; urban design and development codes; and more.

The responsibilities of the Community Planner will include supporting dynamic project teams, conducting public engagement activities, creating GIS maps and graphics, and preparing plan documents. The successful candidate will work collaboratively and autonomously as conditions require. Tasks may include research and analysis, writing and communicating through visuals, communicating with clients, consensus‑building, and confidently interacting with the public.

The intent is for this person to be based out of and mostly in‑person in one of the following Halff offices:
San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, or Richardson offices.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in community/urban planning or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • 1‑4 years of experience in a planning capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with computer programs (GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office programs, InDesign) and the ability to produce attractive maps, graphics, and written documents.
  • A great attitude towards teamwork, curiosity, initiative, and taking on new challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the public or private sector.
  • Master’s degree in community/urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • AICP certification.
