As part of our Architecture practice at HDR, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of spaces and experiences that advance community well‑being around the world. From healing environments and learning spaces to research labs and civic landmarks, your work will directly influence how individuals experience the world.
Our San Antonio or Dallas, Texas offices are seeking a candidate with a desire to use and grow their technical expertise to deliver projects across a variety of markets and building types, with the potential to support architecture work across the Water, Resource, Federal, and Building Engineering market sectors. In this role, you will partner with project managers to lead the planning, design, documentation, and construction administration of multiple building types, including high‑performance data centers, water treatment facilities, advanced manufacturing plants, office spaces, operations centers, and maintenance facilities.
Responsibilities- Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial‑type facilities.
- Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables.
- Work with the Project Manager to proactively manage scope and schedule.
- Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction.
- Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.
- Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
- Perform QA/QC and cross‑discipline technical reviews.
- Write and edit architectural specifications.
- Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders.
- Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
- Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.
- Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with Client Representatives, Project Managers and other disciplines.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Master's degree in Architecture.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant prior experience in industry sectors such as data centers, water treatment facilities, public utility facilities, operations centers, aerospace, manufacturing, etc.
- LEED accreditation with experience and/or interest in sustainable design.
- Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Experience facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders such as engineers, client, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, etc.
- Due to client contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Registered Architect.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient in the use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes.
- Demonstrated graphic presentation skills.
- Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills.
