Job Overview
The CAD Designer will be responsible for creating accurate, detailed electrical drawings and models to support project planning, coordination, and installation. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and engineers to produce drawings that meet project requirements, company standards, and industry codes.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain electrical BIM models and 2D CAD drawings, including floor plans, lighting layouts, power plans, equipment layouts, one lines, conduit routing, and panel schedules
- May create 3D models for coordination with other trades
- Work closely with Estimating during preconstruction to develop conceptual drawings including 50%, 75%, 95% and 100% drawings
- Support project planning by providing accurate dimensions, routing information, and installation details
- Communicate proactively with customers and project teams to understand scope changes and design need
- Update drawings based on field changes, design revisions, RFIs, and coordination meetings
- Prepare red line drawings from field teams
- Ensure all drawings follow company CAD/BIM standards, layering systems, and naming conventions
- Participate in training sessions to improve company knowledge and industry understanding
- Follow company procedures, meet role expectations and make recommendations to improve services Attend relevant company and department meetings
- Associate Degree from an accredited university/college in related field (preferably Electrical Engineering or CAD) OR prior experience working in a CAD Designer role
- Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, risers, one-lines, and specifications
- Understanding of electrical systems: feeders, branch circuits, lighting, grounding, equipment layout, conduit routing, etc
- Knowledge of 2023 NEC Code requirements as they relate to design/layout
- Prior experience using Bluebeam, Revit, Auto Desk and/or Procore
- Prior experience using a dedicated CRM platform such as Salesforce
- Prior experience using Microsoft Office suite
- Demonstrate strong communication and organization capabilities including the ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, Managers, or others on the project team, as well as understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and interact effectively to maintain a team environment
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple project demands simultaneously
