Apply for a prestigious Staff Physician position in the Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders Service (SCI/D) at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Summary

This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and offers a competitive salary, annual bonus, extensive benefits, and a comprehensive total‑rewards package. You must meet VHA policy eligibility requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants are ineligible for the incentive.

Base pay: $240,000–$270,000 per year (actual pay based on skills and experience). Contact your recruiter for details.

Basic Requirements
  • United States citizenship, or a non‑citizen applicant when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a VA approved school.
  • Completed residency training accredited by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, ACGME, or AOA.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Full licensing required for Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); PRPs serve on an intermittent or fee‑basis under supervision.
  • Board certification may be required for faculty status; see VA Qualification Standards for details.
Duties
  • Provide patient care, education, and supervision of resident physicians in an outpatient setting.
  • Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations following national guidelines.
  • Conduct EMG injections and other diagnostic tests consistent with privileges.
  • Consult with allied health professionals (OT, PT, neuropsychology, audiology, speech‑language pathology, vision testing, psychosocial evaluation, etc.) for holistic patient care.
  • Document care in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and maintain detailed encounter notes required by electronic tools.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, research to advance patient care, and quality management activities such as root‑cause analysis and morbidity & mortality conferences.
  • Assist with administrative duties: review SCI/D service consults, manage facility‑wide performance measures, attend accreditation meetings, serve on hospital committees, and maintain medical licensing and board certification requirements.
  • Provide on‑call coverage as needed, including weekend coverage on the inpatient rehab unit, and perform telehealth consultations when required.
  • Offer educational counseling on neuro‑rehabilitation, medication management, complementary services (health coaching, massage, acupuncture), and disease prevention.
