Substitute Teacher - St Mary's Catholic School

Summary
A substitute teacher is responsible for enabling each child to pursue his or her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his or her regular teacher. The role involves carrying out the lesson plans of the regular teacher and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in the policies of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Employment Status – Temporary
FLSA Status – Non-Exempt/Hourly
Reports to – Principal
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Provides instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups
- Supervises students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs
- Attends to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
- Performs other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration
- Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct
- Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming
- Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others
- Protects confidentiality of information obtained in service with the organization
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
- Approaches interactions with a solution-oriented mindset, promoting collaboration and commitment to the mission and vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred - Experience – Minimum of 1 year of substituting or teaching experience preferred
- License and Credentials – Reliable transportation, valid driver license, valid vehicle insurance, must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
- Minimum Knowledge and Skills – Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs;
Provide instructional reinforcement for individuals or small groups;
General class supervision;
Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, works well independently and on a team;
Good written and verbal skills;
Good critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
