The School of Nursing at UT Health San Antonio invites PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in Nursing or related field to apply for a full-time research position as Associate Professor or Professor rank (Tenured or Tenure-Track), PhD Program Director, and PhD Committee on Graduate Studies Chairperson. Required applicants must have completed a Doctor of Philosophy [PhD] in Nursing or a related field.
Three (3) or more years teaching in a PhD Program. Evidence of success in an extramurally funded program of research;
Active engagement in research;
Evidence of successful dissemination of research findings.
Minimum Qualifications
· Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing (preferred) or related field.
· Three (3) or more years of teaching experience in aPhD program.
· Proven track record of success in securing extramural funding for research.
· Ongoing research program with evidence of successful dissemination of findings in high-impact journal and at national or international conferences.
· Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in developing PhD curricula.
· Academic leadership/administration experience.
· National recognition as a leader in the field of research.
· Rank and Track is commensurate on candidate's experience.
1. Program Administration
a. Provide leadership for the PhD in Nursing Science program, ensuring it meets academic, professional, and regulatory standards.
b. Lead the development, implementation, and periodic review of the curriculum, ensuring it is evidence-based, innovative, and responsive to the evolving needs of the profession
c. Continuously assess the program’s effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to maintain program quality.
d. Oversee adherence to institutional, state, and federal regulations related to doctoral education.
e. Serves as t he chair of the PhD Committee on Graduate Studies
2. Program Faculty Support and Development
a. Mentor faculty members teaching in the program, supporting their professional development and teaching effectiveness.
b. Develop strategies to foster a collaborative environment among program faculty, staff and students.
3. Engage in innovative strategies for student recruitment, support, and retention.
a. Participate in efforts to recruit and admit highly qualified students into the program.
b. Ensure students are matched with appropriate faculty advisors.
c. Provide academic and professional guidance to students, helping them navigate coursework, research, and the dissertation process.
d. Support students through the progression of their doctoral studies, from coursework through dissertation, ensuring timely completion and success.
4. Research and Scholarship
a. Encourage a culture of scholarly inquiry by aligning the program with national and global nursing research priorities.
b. Assist students in identifying and applying for research funding to support travel for dissemination, their dissertation, and for post-doctoral positions.
c. Leveraging faculty expertise to provide mentorship and scholarly opportunities to students.
d. Promote and support the dissemination of research findings through academic publications, conferences, and other scholarly activities.
e. Maintain own funded program of research.
5. Strategic Planning
a. Develop and implement a plan for the program’s growth and development, identifying areas for opportunities and improvement.
b. Provide regular reports to the Associate Deans on progress, challenges, and outcomes.
c. Analyze the program’s performance against peer institutions and make recommendations for program enhancements.
6. Community Engagement
a. Represent the program at nursing conferences and in the media, enhancing the visibility of the program
