** Position Summary
** Mitchell Lake Audubon Center (MLAC) is an environmental education and conservation action center in San Antonio, Texas. The 1200-acre sanctuary is located approximately 15 minutes south of downtown San Antonio. This unique and beautiful bird haven includes walking and driving trails among our various habitats, including wetlands, woodlands, scrublands, and grasslands, which provide an outstanding learning opportunity in a diverse, beautiful setting.

The Seasonal Education Assistant will work with Education Staff to assist in delivering school and community education programs, attend community outreaches, and support related daily operations of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center.

This role is on-site at the Audubon Texas/Michell Lake Audubon Center in San Antonio, TX.Compensation:$19.00 / hour

Job Description
**** Essential Functions
*** Assist in leading elementary, middle, or high school students during the outdoor field trips at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center (MLAC). Lead guided nature tours.
* Help lead hands-on activities during classroom visits to San Antonio schools.
* Conduct community outreach at tabling events around San Antonio.
* Assist in the development of and present activities and curricula for community and family programs.
* Create a meaningful experience for program participants while teaching appreciation and respect for the natural environment.
* Assist in daily husbandry for our animal ambassadors.
* Assist with front desk operations when needed, such as opening and closing procedures, visitor check-in, gift shop sales, answering phone calls, and being a front-line representative.
* Interact with the public to provide information about Audubon and Audubon’s mission, answer specific questions from visitors, and be a positive ambassador of Audubon.
* Perform trail maintenance and habitat management practices as needed to maintain safe trails for students and the public.
* Maintains and fosters culture of safety.
* Other job-related duties as assigned.
** Seasonal Education Assistant Schedule
** School Programs take place at the Center Tuesday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Education Assistants must be able to commit to at least three weekdays (Tuesday–Friday) and be available to teach during those hours. Education Assistants are also expected to work approximately 20 hours per week with a minimum of two Saturdays per month to support community programs, with additional Saturday availability preferred.

The projected start date is mid-March 2026 and will last approximately three months.

Experience:

*** Must be hard-working, flexible, and self-motivated.
* Must be able to stand on your feet for long periods, lift loads to 15 lbs, and traverse uneven terrain for over 2 miles with or without accommodations. Must be able to lead groups in an outdoor setting, including being able to traverse the trails and uneven terrain of the Center and surrounding properties in variable weather conditions.
