Department of Economics

The Department of Economics in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio includes a dedicated group of full-time faculty committed to excellence in research and teaching across core areas of economics. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a STEM-designated M.S. in Economics program that emphasizes rigorous training in economic theory and quantitative methods.

A particular strength of the department lies in its applied microeconomics group, which conducts impactful research in health, development, education, urban economics, and empirical industrial organization. This group complements the department's foundation in core microeconomics and macroeconomics, contributing to UTSA's growing reputation as a hub for innovative and policy-relevant economic research. The successful candidate will have an ongoing research agenda related to health economics. Salary and resources are competitive with similar R1 research universities.

Required Qualifications

* A Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field (e.g., Public Policy) by the time of appointment.

* Demonstrated potential for high-quality research that has clear relevance to health outcomes, systems, or behaviors, with a strong focus on applied microeconomic methods.

* A record of-or clear potential for-publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed economics journals.

* Ability to contribute to the department's graduate and undergraduate teaching mission, particularly in health economics and related areas.

* Strong quantitative and empirical skills, including experience with causal inference and large-scale data analysis.

* This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
