Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) – $55–$60/hr – San Antonio, TX – In‑Person – 15 Weeks
Position OverviewThe Teacher for the Visually Impaired provides specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential academic, organizational, and life skills. This educator assesses functional vision, adapts instructional materials, supports accessibility through braille and assistive technology, and collaborates with school staff and families to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations. The TVI plays a key role in IEP development, progress monitoring, and fostering independence and self-advocacy.

Details of Assignment- Provides direct services and instructional support to students with visual impairments
- Includes adapted curriculum, braille instruction, accessible material creation, and assistive tech support
- Collaborates with classroom teachers, O&M specialists, and related service providers
- Supports IEP documentation, goal tracking, and accessibility compliance
- Conduct functional vision assessments and develop individualized plans
- Adapt curriculum materials (braille, large print, digital formats)
- Teach core visual impairment-related skills, including braille literacy and assistive technology
- Provide student support in academic, organizational, and independent living skills
- Collaborate with educators, specialists, and families
- Maintain required documentation and contribute to IEP processes
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
- Valid Texas TVI Certification required
- At least one year of experience as a TVI preferred
- CPR certification if applicable
- TB screening and current health certificate per state guidelines
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
