Purpose:
To assist the classroom teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Qualifications:Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED and ESSA or NCLB Certificate OR Associates degree or 48 college hours from an accredited college. Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Good organizational skills. Good classroom management skills. Maintain confidentiality.
Experience: Experience working successfully with children (preferred).
MajorResponsibilities and Duties:
- Ability to communicate and work with students, parents, community, co-workers and administration.
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
- Assist in monitoring the students throughout the school day, inside and outside of classroom.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling
Motion: Repetitive hand motions and reaching
Lifting: May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40+ lbs.)
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, ability to read selected instructional material instructions; ability to maintain emotional control under stress; patience and tolerance
