Overview
St. Mary s University School of Law invites applications for multiple full-time Assistant, Associate, or Full Professors of Practice to teach in the Bar Exam Success Program, including one professor to serve as Director of Bar Exam Success. All positions are full-time, non-tenure track.
Terms:
a minimum two-year contract with possibility of promotion and renewal. Salary: 9-month contract as Professor of Practice $80,000–$105,000;
Director of Bar Exam Success $95,000–$110,000. Opportunities may be available for additional compensated teaching or writing. Scholarship is not required; research grants may be available.
Professors of Practice will be team-oriented, collaborative, and dedicated to teaching excellence, supporting students. They will join a dynamic, diverse, collegial faculty redeveloping the Bar Exam Success Program for national-level success. These positions are student-facing and require campus presence, except for online teaching. They will teach upper-level courses including Bar Preparation for Credit (three-hour) and the bar coaching program, Raise the Bar.
The Bar Exam Success Program involves extensive student meetings, planning and execution of workshops, data tracking, and feedback on written work during February and July bar cycles. The program is in partnership with Helix; students in the Class of 2027 and beyond will receive their bar prep course.
The Director leads the Bar Exam Success Program, develops curricula, and provides oversight and mentorship to Professors of Practice and coaches. The Director will also teach courses in the Bar Exam Success curriculum, counsel students, assess and grade written work, manage data systems, and report bar passage statistics to the law faculty and administration.
Minimum Education- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar
- Strong academic record and writing skills
- At least two years of legal work experience post-JD
- For the Director: ability to lead, mentor, and train others in teaching methods and curriculum development
- Able to travel and work some evenings and weekends
- Prior teaching experience in bar-related skills
- Experience on a law journal and/or judicial clerkship
- For the Director: prior experience directing a Bar Exam Success program
