Job Description:

The mission of the Office of Student Engagement & Development is to contribute to a vibrant campus life by developing student leaders, facilitating programs, and providing resources to support and engage students. The Assistant Director for Student Engagement & Development serves as a key contributor to the Office of Student Engagement & Development's mission to cultivate an engaged, inclusive, and developmentally rich campus environment.

This role functions as a generalist within the department, supporting a broad portfolio that includes student organization advising, co‑advising of a University‑Sponsored Organization, campus programming initiatives, leadership development, and event compliance processes. The Assistant Director provides professional guidance to student leaders and organizations to promote effective governance, responsible resource management, and alignment with University and Student Affairs divisional priorities. Through collaborative partnership with colleagues, the Assistant Director contributes to the development and implementation of engagement strategies that advance student learning outcomes, institutional goals, and a vibrant campus life.

This position exercises independent professional judgment in areas including event review, risk assessment, budget oversight, student staff supervision, and program implementation, while operating within established departmental and institutional guidelines. The Assistant Director is a member of the Student Engagement & Development team and shares responsibility for advancing departmental goals, assessment initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

JOB DUTIES
  • Provide advising support to registered student organizations, offering guidance on governance, financial stewardship, program planning, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable regulations. Co‑advise a University‑Sponsored Organization as the lead advisor within Student Engagement & Development, supporting strategic planning, leadership development, fiscal oversight, and alignment with University and divisional initiatives. Facilitate workshops, trainings, and leadership development opportunities for student leaders and organization members to enhance leadership capacity, organizational effectiveness, and inclusive engagement.

    Collaborate with faculty and staff advisors to strengthen advising practices and promote consistent support for student organizations.

  • Participate in a structured event review rotation to assess student organization programming and campus‑wide events. Exercise professional judgment to review and approve events within established risk thresholds and elevate higher‑risk activities as appropriate. Provide consultation and education to student leaders regarding risk mitigation, safety planning, financial procedures, and compliance expectations. Contribute to institutional efforts to minimize risk while supporting vibrant and engaging campus programming.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support campus‑wide signature programs, traditions, and engagement initiatives that enhance campus spirit and belonging. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of engagement strategies designed to advance institutional and divisional priorities. Support innovative approaches to student engagement that respond to evolving student interests and community needs.

  • Contribute to assessment efforts, including development of evaluation tools, data collection, analysis, and reporting related to student engagement and learning outcomes. Assist with maintenance and optimization of systems that support student organization registration, event submission, and roster management. Participate in periodic review and refinement of student organization policies, procedures, and operational practices.
