Associate Professor of Practice, Medical Humanities

Position Summary

The successful candidate will enrich the Medical Humanities program housed in the ISE. We seek a medical practitioner whose practice is informed by humanities (such as qualitative research methods, bioethics, narratives of care, histories of medicine, and more) and who can design and teach one class centered on medical career/experience within a humanities framework. This will add an engaged practitioner’s view to the classroom, helping our students become more aware of real-world challenges and potential career opportunities.

The position will also increase the program’s profile by providing students with opportunities to professionalize and better market their experience and skills.

Teaching support and best‑practice guidance will be provided by faculty and staff of the ISE. This is a temporary position with an expected end date of 12/20/2026; it may be extended or shortened based on availability of funds and/or departmental need.

Required Qualifications
  • Features a career in a health‑relevant field. As Professor of Practice, the candidate will bring this experience to the classroom.
  • Communicates clearly with students and develops meaningful teaching, incorporating active or experiential learning or evidence‑based pedagogy.
  • Works closely with the Medical Humanities program director to understand the needs of our students.
  • Has the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of the University’s students and is dedicated to advancing the University’s core values.
  • Has the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Salary Range

$5,000 per course.
