JOB GOAL
Provides students with research-based learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in small group settings.
Position Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum two years of experience supporting K-2 ELAR and/or ESL classrooms (preferred)
- Texas Teacher certificate appropriate for level and subject area of assignment (preferred)
- ESL/Bilingual certification (preferred)
- Understands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
- Creates a small-group environment that is conducive to learning, includes research-based best practices, and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Plans small group lessons that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Provides focused, targeted, and systematic second language acquisition instruction and progress reports to the identified emergent bilingual students/English learners.
- Develops and implements instructional scaffolds for students based on prior analysis of a lesson’s text complexity and formative assessment.
- In collaboration with the classroom ELAR teacher, analyzes formative/summative assessment data to plan and makes informed adjustments to lesson preparation and instruction for small groups.
- Evaluates student work samples against established criteria to identify and analyze trends and plan instructional next steps.
- Supports students in setting goals and maintains standards of classroom behavior.
- Analyzes year-long curriculum to anticipate student struggles and maps prerequisite knowledge for a unit of instruction.
- Refers students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life, conduct, and equity.
- Makes provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
- Maintains and improves professional competence.
- Participates in district and campus staff development.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
- Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of reading curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
- Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
- Ability to analyze data.
Physical Requirements
- Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
- Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
- Position is in classroom setting and intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
- Moderate travel is required.
