Job Description

The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) invites applications for a full-time, lecturer position in Physics with the appointment beginning in Fall 2026. Specialization is open. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate physics courses, including lecture and laboratory components, a commitment to student-centered teaching, the use of evidence-based instructional practices in the STEM fields, and experience working as part of a team of educators.

The CEMS Department provides a rich educational experience for students interested in computing, cybersecurity, engineering technology, and mathematics. We offer bachelor’s degree programs in these disciplines as well as support courses in physics for STEM majors. We also offer Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. Our students enjoy learning in person and in online/hybrid courses with small class sizes, and state-of-the-art technology, in high-tech classrooms.

We emphasize hands-on experiential learning and critical thinking, and the participation of students in research under our faculty’s mentorship.

As a part of the CEMS team at a rapidly growing, aspirational university, faculty are expected to actively engage in course development and improvement, student success initiatives, and inter-departmental collaborations. Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory instruction in a variety of introductory physics courses that serve the variety of STEM majors. Enhancing student success in these foundational courses is a high priority for the university.

The base teaching load for lecture faculty is 5/5; reassigned time for service is possible. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed. Service to the department, college, university, and the community is dependent on teaching load. This is a position that requires teaching in person on campus.

Part of the world-renowned Texas A&M University System and established as a stand-alone university in 2009, Texas A&M University-San Antonio is a comprehensive four-year public university that reflects the heritage-rich community it serves. Situated on nearly 700 acres in South San Antonio, the university offers 37 undergraduate and 19 graduate degrees to over 8,000 students. A&M-SA holds the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation and is one of only 39 higher education institutions in the U.S. to have received the Seal of Excelencia certification from Excelencia in Education.

More than 77 percent of A&M-SA students identify as Hispanic, and approximately 60 percent are first-generation college attendees. A&M-SA is a military-embracing institution and is currently undergoing transformational growth towards achieving an R-2 Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity classification. This growth is supported by initiatives like the recent partnership with Texas A&M University Health Science Center and University Health, which aims to expand education pathways and research opportunities in high-demand health sciences disciplines, especially in a historically underserved region.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality physics instruction equivalent to 30 credit hours per academic year (5/5 teaching load).

  • Engage as a member of an interdepartmental team to provide input on the timing of physics course offerings, ensuring alignment with other STEM courses to support student progression in foundational sequences.

  • Attend Departmental, College, and University Meetings

Required

Education and Experience:

  • A MS in Physics from an accredited university at time of appointment. All areas will be considered.

  • Experience teaching introductory/foundational physics courses at the college level.

  • Evidence of developing and implementing innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching in the STEM fields.

  • Excellent skills in interaction and communication…
