Primary Purpose
Assist the teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Certification- High School diploma or Accredited General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Note:
Proof of U.S. equivalency must be provided if diploma is from outside of United States. - Must meet ONE of the following, to work in a Title I school:
- Associate degree or higher from an accredited college/university; OR
- Forty‑eight (48) hours of college credit from an accredited college/university; OR
- Passed a locally approved training program in reading, writing and mathematics AND can assist in instruction.
- Be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification.
- Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non‑refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant, before continuing within the process toward possible employment.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
- Ability to assist students with academic work at the academic grade level appropriate for assignment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals in a professional manner.
- Ability to use computers to retrieve and send email and use District required system/software program.
- Some experience working with children

- Assists in maintaining student records and provide feedback as requested by teacher.
- Tutor students in the classroom who have fallen behind.
- Participates in instructional activities with students and teacher.
- Help teacher prepare classroom materials and displays.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Assist in monitoring playground, lunchroom, and recess activities.
- Help in monitoring students on field trips.
- Arrange pictures, models, and objects for displays.
- Arrange bulletin boards and displays and keep them up to date.
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment.
- Set up and operate audio‑visual equipment.
- Aid students in specialized areas.
- Duplicate class materials and make transparencies.
- Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment and instructional materials.
- Maintain confidentiality in all student matters.
- Strive to improve competencies.
- Accept constructive criticism to improve techniques.
- Perform other duties as assigned by principal or supervisor.
- Assist students according to their needs.
- Assist students with physical needs.
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Work with students assigned by the teacher.
- Keep teacher informed of needs or problems of individual students.
Word‑processor, computers, copier machine, and other general office machines.
Physical Demands/Working ConditionsMaintain emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Lifts/carries 10‑25 pounds frequently, 25‑40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance. Pushing/pulling 10‑35 pounds sporadically. Continual walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, running, climbing, and sitting. Work indoors and outdoors in varying climate conditions. May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.
