Middle School, Math Teacher
Who You Are
You actually enjoy middle schoolers. Not despite the fact that they are dramatic and unpredictable and will test every boundary you set, but because underneath all of that is a kid who wants to be seen and challenged and taken seriously. You know how to hold the line without losing the relationship. You are consistent, structured, and warm, in that order.
You are also humble. You are not the smartest person in the room looking down at everyone else. You are the person who cannot stop thinking about better ways to explain things, and you actually get excited when a student pushes back because it means they are thinking.
Why Prelude PrepWe believe middle school is where kids start deciding what they are capable of. We refuse to let them decide small. Our students are held to a real standard, given real structure, and treated like the capable young people they are becoming. They rise to it because we expect them to and we build the conditions that make it possible.
