Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned, helping them achieve intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop the competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Successful fingerprinting background check and payment of a non‑refundable fee.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the district’s curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation. Include accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect students’ learning styles and needs, and present subject matter in accordance with Texas Education Agency guidelines and board policies.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as required for special education students, following Individual Education Plan (IEP) guidelines.
  • Co‑operate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in line with district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee its completion.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Direct the work of assigned instructional aides.
Physical and Mental Demands

Use of personal computer and standard instructional equipment; may work with an automated external defibrillator (AED) for P.E. teachers. Requires prolonged standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Regular walking and light lifting (under 15 pounds), occasional heavier lifting, and exposure to indoor and outdoor noise. Mental demands include maintaining emotional control under stress and managing prolonged or irregular hours.
