Assistant Professor of Nursing / Simulation and Skills Lab Coordinator

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Wayland Baptist University is an intentionally Christian community that expects its employees to advance the mission and vision of the University. As a full‑time faculty member, the Assistant Professor of Nursing will primarily be responsible for teaching. Faculty should seek mentoring relationships with students through academic advising, undergraduate research, and student organization support.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:
- Prepare and teach 24 semester hours each academic year, with load reduction to coordinate use of the Simulation and Skills labs on a 12‑month contract.
- Understand and abide by FERPA regulations.
- Maintain required paperwork: grades and attendance, and submit reports when requested.
- Update grades weekly on Blackboard.
- Update attendance daily on Blackboard.
- Post syllabus on Blackboard by the start of the term.
- Submit Student Status Report (course grade to date) about 1/3 through the 16‑week term to Student Services; may include a concurrent student spreadsheet to the Registrar’s Office.
- Submit Final Grades (course grade for the 8‑week session and last date attended for failing grades) through Student Services; may include a concurrent student spreadsheet to the Registrar’s Office.
- Accommodate periodic grade and/or attendance checks requested by the Department of Student Success and/or the Department of Athletics.
- Keep required paperwork for inventory and supply needs of the simulation and skills lab; submit reports when requested.
- Maintain daily operations of the simulation and skills lab, collaborating with faculty to design, implement, and evaluate simulations/skills scenarios aligned with curriculum.
- Abide by accommodations from the Title IX Coordinator and/or Disability Services Coordinator.
- Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours per week.
- Be available on campus five days a week.
- Dress professionally and appropriately for the tasks assigned.
- Provide academic advising to undergraduates (and graduate students if applicable) and assist with registration and recruiting events.
- Assist the dean and faculty members in developing new courses/programs, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developing syllabi.
- Serve on university, faculty, and school committees; assist with and attend graduations and school events; attend scheduled faculty/staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Maintain competence in using Wayland’s adopted online teaching and retention management systems, including Blackboard, Colleague, Perceptive Content, Pioneer Pulse, Vital Source, and Slate.
- Provide service to the university through committees, councils, and special projects.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Nursing.
- All work must be performed in alignment with the terms of the signed contract.
Additional Requirements:
- Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Able to pass background checks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Must hold a master’s degree in nursing; a doctorate in nursing preferred.
- Experience and Knowledge: Basic knowledge of nursing education and clinical experience in the assigned content area. Certification in simulation preferred. Must hold an unencumbered RN license in Texas or equivalent compact state licensure. Commitment to maintain professional competence through continuing education, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing.
- Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software; strong interpersonal and written communication skills; discretion and integrity; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Work Environment: The position is primarily in a standard office setting and sometimes in a university classroom. The environment is a controlled temperature office with moderate noise, and classroom settings include projectors, whiteboards, and computers. Noise levels may vary with class size…
