Job Description
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio seeks Adjunct History Instructors to be included in the general pool of candidates from which qualified part-time faculty will be selected for the upcoming academic term.
The deadline for application is December 1 for consideration for the Spring semester and July 1 for the Fall semester.
ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibility will be to teach freshman-level survey classes that fulfill the University's general education requirement in history. Other duties may include teaching course for history majors and minors (contingent upon enrollment).
Preference for teaching online or in person on the San Antonio campus may be specified in the cover letter. Enrollment in face-to-face classes is usually capped at thirty students and in online classes (both synchronous and asynchronous) at thirty-five.
The course(s) to be taught may include:
- World History 1355 and 1356 (to 1500/from 1450)
- US History 1301 and 1302 (to/from 1865)
Minimum:
Master's degree (MA) in History.
- Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level, particularly survey courses similar to those stated above;
- The ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse community;
- Creativity and innovation in classroom instruction;
- Effective integration of technology to facilitate student learning.
Contract renewal is contingent upon evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Employment with Our Lady of the Lake University is contingent upon the applicant undergoing a background investigation.
