Southwest ISD - K-3rd Reading Specialist

Description/Notes: The K-3rd Grade RLA specialist's primary role is to support campuses and teachers in effectively implementing research-based literacy practices to strengthen RLA instruction.

• Education/Training:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Education, or Reading from an accredited university
  • Master’s Degree in related field (preferred)
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the subject and level assigned
  • Completed TEA’s requirement of the Reading Academy
  • Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting check/background check
• Special Knowledge/
  
  Skills:
  
  
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction, including best practices in the development of reading and writing skills through structured literacy
  • Strong knowledge of the Science of Teaching Reading (STR)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide program
  • Expertise in data analysis to improve student achievement
  • Ability to communicate effectively with administrators and teachers
  • Deep knowledge of PK-5 RLA content and TEKS
  • Deep understanding of best practices regarding language acquisition
  • Provide coaching and teaching leadership experience in RLA classrooms
  • Deep knowledge and experience in the use of research-based instructional practices and creating optimal conditions for learning in RLA classroom settings
• Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher (early elementary preferred)
