Primary Purpose Summary

Assist the school principal in overall administration of instruction program and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Essential Requirements and Responsibilities
  • Participates in development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourages and supports development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Promotes the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
  • Promotes a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicates effectively with students and staff.
  • Attends extra‑curricular activities as directed by the Principal to support students and staff and ensure continued rapport with students, staff and parents.
  • Participates in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents and community members.
  • Helps principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Observes employee performance, records observations, and conducts evaluation conferences.
  • Serves as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Assists principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff.
  • Supervises operations in principal's absence.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in development of class schedules, teacher assignments and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Supervises reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow‑up investigations.
  • Works with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Requisition s supplies, textbooks, and equipment; checks inventory; maintains records; and verifies receipts for materials.
  • Assists with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Coordinates transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services.
  • Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule and Board policy.
  • Ensures that students are adequately supervised during non‑instructional periods.
  • Helps to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Ensures that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conducts conferences on student and school issues with parents, students and teachers.
  • Participates in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Articulates the school's mission to community and solicits its support in realizing mission.
  • Demonstrates awareness of school‑community needs and initiates activities to meet those needs.
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.
  • Reports to work on time every day.
  • Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree
    • Three years of experience in instructional leadership roles
    • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
    • Valid Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Principal, or Mid‑Management Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification, preferred
    • Valid Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS) Certification by the Texas Education Agency
    • Valid Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) training Certification by the Texas Education Agency
    • High School Diploma and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
