Lecturer in Music Therapy Services Academic Year)
The Department of Music invites part-time faculty candidates for the Lecturer in Music Therapy Services position within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. The role involves teaching the Music Therapy Practicum in UIW’s Music Therapy Services Center and providing support to the Center based on its schedule. Faculty are expected to uphold the highest professional ethical standards in line with the UIW Mission and perform official duties and responsibilities as assigned.
ResponsibilitiesBasic Instructional Duties
- Prepare course outlines and teach the Music Therapy Services course following approved departmental syllabi; deliver consistent, interactive lectures.
- Prepare and administer timely, meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
- Collaborate with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes are met.
- Be available outside of class to assist students and answer questions (1 hour per 3‑hour class, physically or electronically); incorporate and supervise undergraduate music therapy students in 10‑week practicum placements with MTSC clients.
- Observe and assist undergraduate music therapy students in advanced practicum placements with MTSC clients. Evaluate students at mid‑point and end‑point of each 10‑week practicum and for advanced practicum students at semester’s end.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies, including timely record‑keeping of student activities, fair evaluation, and prompt feedback.
- Maintain respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Design, coordinate, and provide music therapy services and programs for various patient and community populations.
- Perform interventions using music therapy techniques appropriate for the age, condition, and needs of patients or groups served.
- Document patient information, therapy provided, feedback, and results.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ conditions and needs.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform music therapy assessments, treatment planning, and implementation based on individual clients’ needs.
- Knowledge of the clinical needs of relevant populations and appropriate music therapy techniques.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA privacy considerations.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to students in written and verbal form.
- Effective communication skills with students, clients, and professionals.
- Ability to document accurately and timely.
- Ability to work constructively in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to work independently and positively with diverse communities.
- Adherence to all applicable university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA‑approved program.
Required Work Experience- Teaching experience in music therapy or a related field.
- Two (2) years of clinical music therapy experience with diverse populations.
- Master’s Degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
- Prior experience supervising undergraduate music therapy students.
- Neurologic Music Therapist designation.
- Experience with brain injury, IDD, military, and mental health populations.
- Functional Spanish proficiency.
- Music Therapist, Board Certified (MT‑BC).
- CPR / First Aid Certification.
- Professional Liability Insurance.
Based on the Center’s schedule.
Physical Demands- Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs of instruments.
- Ability to reach overhead, bend, and squat for interventions.
$3600 per class.
