Special Education Behavior/LID Teacher (2026 - 2027 School Year)
Southside ISD, Southside High School – San Antonio, Texas. Starting date:

Job Title: Special Education Behavior/LID Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Department/S School: Southside High School
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: Teacher Pay + Stipend/187 days
Primary
Purpose:
Provide intervention and instruction to assist students to develop appropriate behaviors, coping skills and social skills. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lesson materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments, or a Valid Teaching Permit
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting and implementation
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- General: Demonstrates thoroughness, reliability, high accuracy; works cooperatively; demonstrates initiative and good judgment; reports promptly; maintains good attendance; uses time productively; follows district policies; accepts supervisory direction; strives to improve job skills; demonstrates tact, courtesy, and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors.
- Instructional Strategies: Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEP through ARD process; implement instructional/therapeutic programs; plan appropriate strategies; work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify curricula; participate in ARD meetings; conduct assessment of learning styles; present subject matter per IEP; employ diverse techniques; supervise assignments for aides; use technology.
- Student Growth and Development: Conduct ongoing assessments; provide/supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding; assume responsibility for extracurricular activities; be positive role model; support mission.
- Classroom Management and Organization: Create conducive learning environment; manage behavior and discipline; intervene in crisis and restrain students per IEP; consult with teachers; consult district and outside resources; protect students and materials; assist in selection of instructional materials.
- Communication: Establish open communication; conduct conferences; attend campus events; maintain professional relationships; use effective communication skills.
- Other: Participate in staff development; keep informed and comply with regulations; compile and file required records; attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher aides, if any.
- Maintain emotional control under stress, frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling; move small stacks; may lift students and use restraint; exposure to hazards.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
