Open Rank Faculty – Department of Health, Behavior, and Society UT School of Public Health San Antonio
University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio was founded in 2022 as a collaboration between UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and The University of Texas at San Antonio, both designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions. On September 1, 2025, both universities will merge as a single institution, which will be known as The University of Texas at San Antonio.
The School provides graduate-level academic instruction in public health and actively conducts research and community engagement activities aimed at promoting and maintaining community health.
The Department of Health, Behavior, and Society seeks faculty candidates with demonstrable academic skills for faculty positions. The Department welcomes faculty with diverse research, teaching, and service interests in a variety of fields, emphasizing social drivers of health, One Health, and dissemination and implementation science. We are looking for individuals who bring a combination of expertise, passion, and commitment to working with vulnerable populations, designing, implementing, and evaluating approaches to prevent disease, improve well‑being, and promote a healthy society for all.
Disciplines may be broad, including health disparities, social and behavioral sciences, diabetes and metabolic disorders, cancer, sexual health, infectious diseases, substance use, and health communication.
The Department seeks candidates with demonstrated research portfolios, scholarly publications, and experience in teaching coursework appropriate to graduate‑level instruction in community health, health behavior, and related fields, and their application to public health. Faculty will be expected to contribute formally to curricula, teach graduate courses, and actively engage in forming the School through internal and external service activities.

Qualifications- A doctorate in public health or a related field.
- Prior experience teaching at the graduate level.
- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct both practical and academic research.
- Expertise or experience related to historically under‑resourced populations are desirable but not required.
- Curriculum vitae with contact information for three references.
- Cover letter outlining qualifications, interest in the position, teaching and mentoring philosophy, academic research trajectory, funding history, and future plans.
UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical – UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for full‑time employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Employees and their dependents can also receive discounted copays and coinsurance when using UT Health Physicians, a network of 800 premier physicians including more than 100 specialists. Employees receive $50,000 of group term life insurance and $50,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for free, with options to purchase additional coverage at group rates.
Dental – Three dental insurance plan options are available for employees and their families through Delta Dental Insurance Company, two PPOs and one dental HMO plan. Both PPO plans allow employees to choose any licensed dentist.
Vision – Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options provide either standard or enhanced vision benefits.
