The City of San Antonio's Pre-K 4 SA Department is looking to fill multiple positions. Applications from this posting may be used to fill current and future vacancies.
Under general direction, is responsible for planning and implementing activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of four-year-old children enrolled in the City's Pre‑K 4 SA program at the Education Centers. Responsibilities include motivating students and their parents/guardians to develop the child's communication abilities, attitudes, skills in math and reading, and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for further education.
This position is funded by sales tax that has been approved by the citizens of San Antonio for a limited time period. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at‑will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Responsibilities- Implements early age curriculum that is supportive and a language and numbers‑rich classroom environment that sparks children's imaginations.
- Plans and delivers engaging lessons, according to early childhood students' needs, that showcase high‑quality teaching and learning.
- Assesses developmental needs of children and works to incorporate individual students' learning, physical, social, and emotional needs.
- Presents academic content through a variety of engaging and rigorous instructional strategies, including conducting large‑group and small‑group activities.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of all students.
- Engages early childhood students in the learning process by interacting at eye level.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
- Assesses student progress on objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Directs teacher aides to provide an effective classroom program and addresses the needs of individual students.
- Organizes age‑appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
- Communicates regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, newsletters, electronic communication such as a parent portal, and/or individual parent conferences.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct using guidance skills appropriate for young children, and enforces discipline as necessary, according to Board policy.
- Works with Center staff and parents to address the needs of the whole child, including emotional, academic, physical, social, and nutritional needs.
- Participates in all staff meetings, including those scheduled after school and during the summer.
- May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non‑ambulatory students.
- In the case of an emergency situation, may be required to lift and carry students weighing up to 50 pounds to move students during dangerous situations.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or related field.
- Valid teaching certificate with required endorsements to teach early childhood education from any State's Educator Certification Department and the ability to obtain certification in Texas.
- Valid Class "C" Driver's License.
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full‑time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.
