Campus Principal and the Band Director

Compensation:
Teacher Pay Scale + Stipend

Primary Purpose:

The Band Director
- Assistant shall assist in directing the instructional program for all band students and assists in the coordinating of campus band activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
    - All Level or Secondary Music education
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of subject(s) to which assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Public-school music teaching experience
  • Instrumental music experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide instruction in the band program
  • Coordinate the instructional process for band students in concert/marching/jazz, theory, appreciation/history classes
  • Maintain accurate band inventory, budget, maintenance, and general operation of all activities
  • Support all district policies regarding the welfare and education of students
  • Actively coordinate the efforts of the band booster organization
  • Coordinate campus band activities with campus programs, staff, and community
  • Prepare students for quality participation in UIL/TMEA sponsored events
  • Actively participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education
  • Participate in the professional development of personal teaching competencies
  • Communicates expectations and program goals to students, faculty, parents, community, and booster club members
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of this position; however, the supervision of students is required. Direct the work of instructional aide(s).

Equipment Used:

  • Office equipment – persona computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Video monitoring equipment

  • Work with frequent interruptions

Physical Demands

  • Frequent:
    Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.
  • Occasional:
    Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds; carrying, moderate, 15-44 pounds

Environmental Factors

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
