Special Education Teacher (All Levels)

Primary
Purpose:
Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop and implement instructional programs based on students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Special Education endorsement
- Demonstrated knowledge of special education law and processes, including IDEA and Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction, behavior management, and differentiated instruction
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal) committee process and IEP development
- Ability to implement accommodations and modifications in alignment with IEPs
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
- Ability to collaborate with general education teachers in inclusion/co-teach settings
- Effective communication and organizational skills
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Participate in ARD committee meetings and contribute to development of IEP goals, accommodations, and services
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and individualized student needs
- Implement IEPs, including accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure student access to grade-level curriculum
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation in accordance with district and TEA requirements
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Work cooperatively with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and campus staff
- Maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment
Experience (Preferred):
- Experience in special education settings (resource, inclusion, or self-contained)
- Experience with a range of disabilities and instructional strategies
- Familiarity with STAAR/STAAR Alternate 2 and assessment accommodations
Working Conditions:
- May work in resource, inclusion, or self-contained classroom
- May assist with student physical needs, including lifting or positioning
- Regular interaction with students, staff, and parents
