Position Summary

The Math Intervention Teacher will provide academic and social-emotional support to at‑risk youth, ages 6‑14. The Teacher will collaborate with school personnel, family members, and other service providers to meet the educational and developmental needs of the students.

Essential Job Functions
  • Give continuous attention to the total physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of children in assigned class.
  • Remains alert to physical safety and well‑being of children.
  • Gives consistent care through on‑going interactions such as talking, comforting, and playing.
  • Arranges room and materials to make an interesting and stimulating environment.
  • Observe children for signs of a growing interest in particular objects, people, play, and activities.
  • Exercises ingenuity in providing children with experiences they need for development.
  • Keep written reports of children’s progress.
  • Exchange information with parents and staff guided by ethical principles in what information is shared.
  • Organize classroom too meet children's needs, interests and capacities.
  • Cooperate with the lead teacher in the preparation of course outlines, program activities, demonstrations, and field trips.
  • Define responsibilities, learn techniques, and evaluate room activities.
  • Perform daily inspections of children.
  • Check daily attendance of children in room.
  • Prepare and keep updated class schedule.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks in the classroom.
  • Maintain necessary pupil records including attendance, health, and progress.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures related to the project, including confidentiality and child protection guidelines, are adhered to.
Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, or any related field.

Experience and Competencies
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated proficiency in the field of child development.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to endure constant activity throughout an eight hour day.
  • Knowledge of the nature of young children.
  • Experience working with at‑risk youth, preferably in an OST or IST setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to engage students in learning.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed practices and youth development.
  • Ability to cope with emergencies and crises as they occur.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
