Title: Instructor – Vocational Skills
Location: DGR Ops Center – 7702 N IH 35, San Antonio, TX 78218
Type: Part Time
Education Level: Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred)
Salary: $32.26–$35.00 per hour
Travel: Various Goodwill locations
Shift: Saturday – Sunday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM
Position SummaryThe Instructor – Vocational Skills is responsible for teaching approved curriculum to students in a Goodwill Career Training Program. The instructor ensures that all core competencies are covered and prepares students to pass professional exams and obtain employment in their field of study while supporting Goodwill’s mission to help change lives through the power of work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Uphold and model Goodwill's mission, core values, and servant leadership philosophy.
- Master group facilitation techniques and present program‑specific courses following an established syllabus and lesson plan.
- Use motivation techniques to stimulate personal interest in the subject matter and establish clear learning objectives for all activities.
- Modify and implement lesson plans for specified courses to best support preparation for certification exams.
- Maintain punctuality and dependability in session preparation, including preparing materials and the classroom for activities while maintaining safety and cleanliness.
- Use flexible and creative approaches to meet student needs, discourage withdrawal, and maintain retention goals.
- Submit required daily attendance, grades, progress reports, and competencies on a regular schedule; maintain accurate records of students’ progress.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students and colleagues regarding progress and needs; collaborate with leadership and support to meet academic and career needs for all students.
- Assign class work, homework, tests, and activities following the lesson plan; grade assignments promptly and provide feedback to reinforce understanding.
- Serve as a community resource person and represent the school to outside groups when requested in a professional manner.
- Constantly strive to improve instruction by engaging in activities that demonstrate a pattern of academic, professional, and technical aptitude.
- Coordinate with staff to ensure the classroom is equipped and stocked with instructional supplies, materials, and resources.
- Ensure students are registered for corresponding program certification exams.
- Respond to information requests from sponsors, leadership, and Goodwill Mission Services staff.
- Maintain a regular schedule for student conferences and tutoring.
- Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures; maintain discipline in accordance with policies.
- Maintain student information and files in accordance with agency and other entities associated with credentialing and licensing of courses taught.
- Accommodate business needs and objectives; perform other duties assigned by leadership as required.
- Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred). Experience may be accepted in lieu of education.
- Three (3) years of experience in training, teaching, or classroom facilitation.
- Certification or licensure within the field from a nationally recognized organization or state agency, continued throughout employment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with MS Office Word, PowerPoint, and email.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance; ability to travel as needed.
- Additional section‑specific requirements:
- CNA Instructor: Minimum four (4) years of professional experience in the past ten years; current active Texas nurse license; minimum one (1) year of nursing experience in a long‑term care environment; completed a course in teaching adults or experience supervising nurse aides.
- CDL Truck Driving Instructor: Current valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License; certified proof of 40 hours of safety education and driver training; minimum three (3) years of tractor‑trailer driving experience within the last ten years.
