Job Description

Title: Choir Director

Department: Campus Based

Reports To: Campus Principal

Compensation: Teacher Pay Scale + Stipend

Days: 187

Primary

Purpose:

The Choir Director shall direct the instructional program for all choir students and coordinate campus choir activities.

Qualifications

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements – All Level or Secondary Music Education
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Successful fingerprinting background check; employee pays non‑refundable fee (~$50)

Special Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of public‑school music teaching experience, preferred
  • Vocal music pedagogy experience, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide instruction in the choir program
  • Coordinate the instructional process for choir students in concerts, choir, and music appreciation classes
  • Maintain accurate choir inventory, budget, and general operation of all activities
  • Support all district policies regarding the welfare and education of students
  • Coordinate campus choir activities with campus programs, staff, and community
  • Prepare students for quality participation in UIL/TMEA sponsored events
  • Participate in professional development to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Maintain consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision and evaluation of district personnel is not a requirement; however, supervision of students is required. Direct the work of instructional aide(s).

  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi‑line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other applicable equipment
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Video monitoring equipment

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Work with frequent interruptions

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling
  • Occasional: lifting 15–44 pounds; carrying 15–44 pounds.

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
