1) FOX RUN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of a special education teacher, the para educator supports students to participate in their educational program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – ALL PARAEDUCATORS- Assist in the implementation of Norwalk Board of Education policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
- Follow school policy to ensure student safety.
- Follow the teacher's oral or written directions with accuracy.
- Assist the teacher with the implementation of classroom instructional goals and Section 504 plans.
- Assist students with classwork individually or in small groups.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining student records of attendance.
- Assist the teacher with documentation of student progress.
- Assist the teacher with the preparation and distribution of lesson plan materials.
- Encourage students to interact appropriately with peers.
- Assist students during recess, breaks, emergency drills, assemblies, on school buses, and field trips.
- Assist and support students in using computers, iPads, or other media to access the curriculum.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
- Follow the teacher's oral or written directions to assist in the implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.
- Assist the teacher with implementation of a toilet schedule and program, and/or feeding program.
- Provide escort and mobility assistance to students.
- Assist and support students during community‑based activities, including job coach activities.
- Assist and support students to develop independent living skills, including hygiene, transportation, self‑management, food preparation, and/or feeding.
- Implement behavioral programs developed by the teacher.
- Collect data on student learning activities, as directed by the teacher.
- Provide teacher with information for progress monitoring and daily reports for parents.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
- Effective, active listening skills.

- Ability to implement teacher directives related to instructional and behavioral goals effectively.

- Respond to questions and requests timely and appropriately.
- Attend meetings and professional development activities as recommended by the teacher, supervisor, Principal, or ELL Instructional Specialist.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher, Principal, Special Education Supervisor, or ELL Instructional Specialist.
- High School diploma or equivalency and Para Pro Certificate.
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
- Associate's Degree in education or related field, or Para Pro Certificate, or two (2) years of college required.
- Two (2) years of experience working with children or young adults in a school setting (preferred).
- Experience working with students who have high management needs (preferred).
- Fluency in Spanish may be required.
- Applicable alternatives to the above qualifications as determined by the Superintendent or Norwalk Board of Education.
Days:
Monday – Friday (27.5 hours weekly; schedule determined by Principal)
Salary: $25.74 – $30.68
