The Department of Music invites part‑time faculty to serve as Lecturer in Music Therapy Services, teaching the Music Therapy Practicum in UIW’s Music Therapy Services Center and providing support to the Center as required. Faculty are expected to uphold the university’s professional ethics and to perform teaching and professional activities as assigned.
Essential Functions- Basic Instructional Duties:
- Prepare course outlines and teach the Music Therapy Services course based on approved syllabi; design and deliver interactive lectures.
- Prepare and administer timely assessments for assigned courses.
- Collaborate with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes are met.
- Provide 1 hour of student support per 3-hour class, physically or electronically, and supervise undergraduate music therapy students during the 10‑week practicum.
- Observe and assist students during advanced practicum placements; evaluate students at midpoint and endpoint of each practicum.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies, including record keeping, fair grading, and timely feedback.
- Maintain respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students, and participate in meetings upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Music Therapist Duties:
- Design, coordinate, and provide music therapy services for diverse patient and community populations.
- Perform interventions using appropriate music therapy techniques for age, condition, and needs of clients.
- Document patient information, therapy provided, feedback, and outcomes.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of clients’ conditions and needs.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Perform music therapy assessments, treatment planning, and implementation based on individual client needs.
- Understand clinical needs of relevant populations and appropriate techniques.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and FERPA privacy considerations.
- Provide constructive written and verbal feedback to students.
- Communicate effectively with students, clients, and professionals.
- Document accurately and timely.
- Work collaboratively and independently in diverse settings.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA‑approved program. - Required Work Experience
- Teaching experience in music therapy or a related field.
- Two (2) years of clinical music therapy experience with a variety of populations.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Music Therapy or related field.
- Prior experience supervising undergraduate music therapy students.
- Neurologic Music Therapist designation.
- Experience with brain injury, IDD, military, and mental health populations.
- Functional Spanish ability.
- Required Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations
- Music Therapist, Board Certified (MT‑BC).
- CPR / First Aid Certification.
- Professional Liability Insurance.

Based on Center’s schedule. - Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs of instruments.
- Ability to reach overhead, bend, and squat to facilitate interventions.
